IC Information:
Name: Yuki Nagato
Canon and medium: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Age: 16- in canon, 3 years old with a biological age of 16
Preincarnation Species: Humanoid data interface of the Data Integration Thought Entity
Preincarnation Appearance: Here! 154 cm tall, 89 pounds.
Any differences: Pretty much the same, only pale more within human limits as opposed to the almost white skin she has in canon. She also always wears glasses, never having erased the need to do so with pure information.
Preincarnated History: Three years ago, Haruhi Suzumiya, a teenage girl, wished for a world with aliens, time travellers, and espers.
Surprisingly, the world bent, and these things came into being. Abruptly, as if they had always been there, these three things started to exist. Amongst these new creations was the Data Integration Thought Entity- a collection of pure knowledge outside time and space, an ethereal and sentient database of all knowledge in existence. Its only goal was to ensure the continued collection of knowledge, and analysis of those few things outside the grasp of its information.
Unfortunately, there was an anomaly it could not understand- why, exactly, this Haruhi Suzumiya, a completely normal girl in all other ways, possessed this power to bend the universe to her will. To better understand this, the Entity created a humanoid interface- a girl named Yuki Nagato- to research her. Arriving on Earth, Nagato integrated herself into Suzumiya's high school, and awaited the day she made contact.
This day came not too long after. Along with her new friend, Kyon, Suzumiya created an organization known as the SOS Brigade, and quickly pulled Nagato into it. Nagato's only goal being to study Suzumiya, this also expanded to studying Kyon- the boy seemed to have a surprising amount of influence on the normally stubborn Suzumiya, and Nagato quickly discerned that he was the only one keeping her from once against reshaping the world, this time eliminating the current one in favor of a better one for her.
Nagato stayed with the Brigade through its many pointless events, meeting the time traveller and esper that Suzumiya's group had also attained thanks to their own organizations, and eventually revealed her true nature to Kyon. Despite her reclusiveness and lack of need for human contact and emotion, she found herself building a strange attachment to Kyon; when her backup, another interface named Ryoko Asakura, went rogue and attempted to kill Kyon, Yuki went out of her way to rescue him, ensuring that no harm came to him; whether this was simply to put down a rebel or to protect Kyon for her own reasons is not entirely clear, as she refuses to speak about it later.
After a time, Suzumiya inadvertently created a new world with only herself and Kyon present, a closed space that threatened to overtake the "real world". As the only one with a contact with Kyon- Nagato could speak with him through the internet- Nagato made it clear that she wanted him back not only for her continued research and survival, but also because she, as an individual, desired his safety and return to her.
Nagato eventually committed an act of open rebellion against the Entity for Kyon's sake, resulting in the creation of a world where only normal humans existed. This world had a human Nagato, one whose emotions for Kyon were more clear; it's implied that Nagato intended for this to be the case since she couldn't do anything herself. Eventually, Kyon returns to the normal world, and prevents Nagato's execution by the Entity by threatening to have Suzumiya create a universe without the Entity in it.
All in all, Nagato's place is sitting by the windowsill in the club room, joining in whatever crazy activity Suzumiya has planned, and being Kyon's most stalwart protector and ally in the crazy situations he ends up in.

Reincarnated History: Yuki was always a shy girl. Withdrawn and quiet, she made not too many friends, except for those she met through her own interests- reading and writing, primarily, though she also had a friend or two from the computer clubs at her varying schools- and mostly kept to herself, her nose generally buried in some epic tale or science fiction story. This wasn't through any lack of desire to have friends, or a lack of friendliness, more born out of her shyness and obsession with reading.
Yuki lived a relatively normal life for quite a while, other than her parents' constant moving taking her to different schools and resulting in her never really staying in places for very long, until eventually they moved to the US from Japan, taking advantage of Yuki's natural skill with language. It wasn't long before her parents moved again, but this time Yuki convinced them to let her stay, using the fact that she had other family nearby who she could rely on as a bargaining chip- she lives alone, spending most of her time at libraries or school, not really minding the solitude since it lets her have plenty of time to read.
This solitude has also led her to throwing herself into her second love, which as mentioned is writing. Being alone all the time makes her feel more comfortable writing her stories, mostly the same types of stories she reads- plenty of sci-fi and high fantasy, usually with romance elements; Malchior by Rachel Roth started out as a guilty pleasure, but somehow accidentally inspired her, leading to her writing quite a few stories about paranormal creatures dating normal humans. Usually aliens, for whatever reason...
Living in Locke City as a lone teenage girl is not something most people would consider "normal", but Yuki sees herself as nothing out of the ordinary- perhaps too much, not really considering herself special in any way. She spends a substantial amount of time sitting on benches in the park reading books when it's pleasant, but she's always just been a face in the crowd.
First Echo: While in the library, Nagato stumbled upon a book, just a collection of classic fairy tales- flipping through it, she stumbled upon the tale of Sleeping Beauty, a story she'd never really read in its entirety as a child in Japan. For some reason, this struck her as oddly familiar, and a memory came to her- one she knew wasn't hers, but felt strongly like it was- of the story Sleeping Beauty helping her to save a friend, somehow, one who was trapped far away...
Preincarnation Personality: As an interface of a cold, unfeeling database of pure information, Nagato at first barely had what could be considered a "personality". Compared several times to a computer, she simply answered questions and did what she'd been told- she would obey nearly any request from anyone without question, and only spoke when spoken to about matters considered important.
Kyon's arrival changed matters. His continuous attempts to befriend her and understand her led to her opening up to him and revealing her mission and her true form to him, trusting that he would believe her (and not completely understanding when he didn't immediately do so) and attempting to show him some semblance of hospitality by making him tea.
After this, she continued to slowly humanize. Despite her near silence, she was quite willing to speak with Kyon (and, on occasion, the other members of the Brigade) on whatever matter he wanted, though she was still rather controlled and quiet if it didn't have to do with Suzumiya or other matters surrounding her mission; she was still primarily doing her duty, and that was it.
Somewhere along the line, though, something changed. Her desire to protect Kyon became less obligation and more, indeed, a desire- she wanted to protect Kyon because she felt it was important, not because the Entity did. She did her very best to protect him from Asakura, not caring about the other interface's side of the argument, and when he eventually became trapped in a closed space with Suzumiya she expressed her own personal desire to rescue him, separate from the mission.
After this, Nagato was less prone to immediately shutting down any type of emotional input, and in fact learned to enjoy certain things; she'd always read sci-fi and fantasy novels over books on just information because she could get something out of them that wasn't simply her job all over again, but she learned to even enjoy messing around with computers simply for fun and not just for her job and even to play computer games and cheat at them just for the sheer enjoyment of it.
This is not to say she wasn't dedicated to her duties, though. When a Camel Spider, an information monster based inside the SOS Brigade's website, became a threat, Nagato quickly prioritized its destruction over all else, even teaming with the team's esper, Koizumi Itsuki, to put it down despite the animosity between their organizations. As an interface of the Entity her primary goal at all times is to observe and only act when Suzumiya or the world at large are threatened. The only time this comes into question is when Kyon is involved- she's been known to act eratically or disloyally if it involves helping him, and he definitely humanizes her more than the others around her.
Any differences: Yuki is not an interface of a cold, unfeeling database of pure information- her shyness and preference to stay quiet are merely born out of her nature rather than her species. A bookworm at heart, Yuki would rather throw herself into fictional worlds where she can simply observe and enjoy the story without having to take a key role in it; she has trouble bringing herself to talk to new people and in some of her schools developed a reputation as kind of weird for watching other people talk, just trying to soak in the atmosphere of a social environment without having to try to figure out how to involve herself in it.
While she may be slightly socially clueless, Yuki is very smart, throwing herself into information on all different subjects; she speaks English and Japanese equally fluently, and has working knowledge of two or three other languages, as well as rather good computer skills and a natural talent for writing and problem solving. Unfortunately, she's terrible at athletics, which isn't really a huge surprise.
She may be shy, but Yuki is really a very sweet girl; she works from behind others as much as she can, but in a pinch she's incredibly reliable and will do whatever it takes to ensure success at the situation at hand for her group and/or friends, and will commonly put aside all common sense to help out if needed. (Including sitting at the same spot in a park all night long for several days straight waiting for someone to show up, a habit she unfortunately shares with her original self.)
Abilities: As a being of information, Nagato has control over the variables and base information of objects and people themselves- she can treat the real world as if it was a computer program. Usually, her ability is limited to only herself; she can move at blindingly fast speeds, heal herself, and perform feats of strength and agility far past what a tiny Japanese girl should be able to do. However, she can also create sealed spaces of information, blocked off from the real world, in which she has absolute control; when fighting Asakura, she has the ability to totally reconstruct a destroyed classroom in a matter of seconds, and in fact erase Asakura herself from existence.
She also has the superhuman ability to work on millions of tasks at once, as a computer would, only limited by her two hands. She can type blindingly fast, but is still limited by having ten fingers.

Yuki was sitting in the library, in her favorite spot by the window, leafing through a collection of sci-fi short stories as she often did. To an observer who didn't know her, it would look like she was just skimming it; someone who DID know her would know that, no, she just reads that fast, and she was in fact taking it slow.
Page 276.
'Aliens,' Yuki couldn't help but think to herself, 'Are probably really lucky. They drop down from space into a culture that doesn't understand them and they have to understand themselves, but no one expects them to- they're new, and unusual, and getting to know the culture is what they're there for.'
Page 278.
But that was a little silly, she thought as well. If you're an alien, you also can't pretend to fit in- unless you look human, in which case you're going to have the same problems as any human. No, being an alien wouldn't solve her shyness, she decided firmly, ending a debate that had no clear purpose in the first place.
280.
But would being an alien make it easier to help people in need? Sure, you'd terrify people, but you could use that to your advantage, and strange powers would make it even easier. But maybe you'd scare the people you were trying to help? It would be iffy.
282, and finished.
Yuki closed the book and sighed contentedly, putting it in her bag and standing up. It was probably early evening, just in time to go home and get some sleep--
She glanced out the window. Oops. It was at least 2 in the morning- once again she'd accidentally stayed at school for at least three times longer than she meant to, and totally missed her chance to go home and do anything meaningful before the next day. ...But then, since she was already going to miss out on sleep, why go home?
Yuki opened the next book in her backlog.

Roleplay Sample - Network:
I don't understand how this thing works. I've never used any type of software before that should let you connect to a network just through typing in a series of numbers, but here we are. From my standpoint I have to assume this is some kind of Deep Web interface, which is a little worrying.
Either way, are you sure you want me in your secret club? If you have this type of program you probably don't need another person with my skillset. The best I can offer you is a book club. Is this a book club, maybe? Since I seem to have gotten the numbers from a book? Probably not, but since there's no real rhyme or reason to what I'm supposed to be saying, I'll act on the hypothesis that it is.
I recently read a book called Hyperion. It was a sci-fi epic, very classic military procedural type thing in space. The science was detailed, though I noticed some immediate flaws in how they portrayed their ships operating, and it was subjectively a good book. I wish it had had more romance, though- has anyone read Malchior? That book knows how to mix a deep, rich world with romance and was really just incredible to read. As an individual I can't remember a book I enjoyed more and I still pick it up every now and then.
If anyone wants to borrow Hyperion I'd be happy to lend it- most of my friends have it already, so I would be happy to let someone else read it now that I'm finished. Please read it quickly, though, I may want to read through it again.
Am I doing this right? I feel like I did the first time I used a computer again since I don't know the point of this. Maybe I just bored every last one of you with my book reviews. It's like an anthropology experiment or something; maybe I should have just observed for a bit instead...
